Odd Job (17 Patchwall 586 OY, 6/29/99 RL) Having smoked some of the gnomes' hasteweed, Camen is up late on the Dardak. Kirios stumbles aboard, and claims to have located a navigator, a former fellow crew-mate named Jos. They go and find Jos reading a book at Rafira's Cafe. Jos seems interested in the job. On their way to view the ship, a creature dashes out from an alley and crosses the street to another alley. It looks something like a 3 foot tall cross between a wolf spider and a moray eel. As it scuttles away, it is chased by a pair of orcs and a rastipede. The rastipede stops and offers 100 g.p. for bringing him "that neogi." Jos and Camen give chase down the alley. They find one of the orcs climbing down a manhole in the street. The orc claims that he lives down there and is just going home, but the humans don't believe it. They follow him into the sewer. The orc goes one way and they go the other. They track the neogi into a dry corridor of some sort, but then are overrun by a wave of giant rats. The rats can only do minor damage, and the humans fight through them to meet what the rats were running from: an umber hulk. Hiding behind the hulk is the neogi. A fight ensues in which the humans suffer sporadic magical confusion until Camen puts out a couple of the hulk's eyes. Jos suffers a nasty claw to the torso. Both parties withdraw somewhat to parlay. The humans turn down the neogi's offer of 300 g.p. to go get the rastipede (named Zidlget), and instead take 150 g.p. to just go away. They return to the ship. Mojo is awakened to stitch up Jos, who despite the gnomish remodeling of the interior seems willing to take a job on board.
