That night, mists and light rain shrouded Miraburg. Jos, Camen, and Shinshi guarded the main gate. As the night dragged on, some of the militiamen on the walls succumbed to the lures of the warm taverns. As midnight drew near, the alarm went up from one side of the town. Skeletons were attacking, scaling the walls with crude ladders. Camen and Shinshi raced down the wall's catwalk to face the intruders, while Jos rallied militia to make a sortie from the gate. Dozens of skeletons were scaling the wooden palisade. Some were thrown back, but others made it inside. Camen and Shinshi fought these, while Jos's troop faced those still on the ground. Jos himself dueled with an especially fierce skeleton armed with a shiny scimitar. The inside skeletons were eventually dealt with, but the militia troop outside was fairing poorly in the slippery mud. A number were cut down and were being dragged away by skeletons when the priest Angus Brightlash arrived on the wall. He called on Pholtus and turned the outside skeletons, but they fled with their human victims. Inside, the last few skeletons on the wall formed a determined pocket of resistance. In the fighting, one of Shinshi's ears was torn off, but eventually the skeletons were defeated.
After the battle, they heard reports that a simultaneous attack on another part of the wall had gone terribly for the town. Spells and ghouls had paralyzed the living, and over twenty men had been dragged away with few undead losses. Only the efforts of Xandra, warrior from the Golden Lightning had prevent an even worse rout.
During the following night, Shinshi had Angus reattach his ear. The next day, he did some scouting and found what may have been the undead camp, on Miraburg's edge near the town. The PCs built traps and planned an ambush on the logging road between the suspected camp and the town, finishing the traps as night fell.
Meanwhile, at Earundir's tower, Axel finally perfected his Fireball spell...
